Potchefstroom College, as Potchefstroom High School for Boys was known at the time, formally opened on Tuesday, 31 January 1905.
By 1907, when the first edition of the school magazine, The Mooi, was produced, former pupils were already being referred to as Old Mooi's — a name inspired by the Mooi River that runs through Potchefstroom. The letters “OM” appeared in brackets after their names.
The Potchefstroom College Old Boys' Society is a unique community built on tradition, loyalty and pride. Its purpose is to help Old Boys remain connected with one another, wherever they may be, and to maintain a lasting relationship between former pupils and the College.
The Society encourages fellowship and social interaction, shares news of Old Boys and their achievements, and provides a network of goodwill and mutual support. It also seeks to promote the wellbeing of Old Boys and their families, while preserving the spirit and values associated with Potchefstroom College.
In this way, the Society serves as a living link between past and present — honouring the school's heritage while keeping its Old Boys connected for generations to come.
